The World Bank Development Indicator <WDI>of 2008 said developing countries currently represents 41 per cent of the world’s total economic output, which stood at $59 trillion as at 2006. The figure rose from 36 per cent in 2000. China now ranks as the second largest economy in the world, and five of the 12 largest economies are developing economies except Latin America and the Caribbean. The share of high-income economies fell by five percent. This year’s WDI introduced new estimates of purchasing power parity (PPP),used to convert local currencies to a common currency.

Nigeria is among the top 20 remittances recipient countries in the world with $3.3
billion remittedin 2007.World Bank “Migration and Remittances
Factbook 2008”says that Nigerians in Diaspora remitted the amount.
Kenya was the second highest recipient of remittances with $1.3 billion,
up from the $1.1 billion in 2006. Sudan followed with $1.2 billion, Senegal
and Uganda with $0.9 billion each, South Africa $0.7 billion, Lesotho $0.4
billion, Mauritius $0.2 billion, Togo $0.2 billion and Mali $0.2 billion.

The Federal Government yesterday, put the value of non-oil export from Nigeria in 2007 at about $1.38 billion, up from the $751.5 million announced by the Central Bank of Nigeria in 2006.
The $628.4 million increase represents about 45.5 Per cent growth in the nation’s income from non-oil products.

.Bayelsa State government keeps its side of the peace deal it signed with militia groups with the donation of 10 speed boats to them.It warns that the boats should be used for surveillance and monitoring of activities of criminals along the waterways.
Chairman, Bayelsa chapter of Niger Delta Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee, Chief James Jephthah, made the presentation .The boats, armed with sophisticated gadgets and a 75 horse power engine each, were given to leaders of the groups at the Peace meeting.
